The First Journey

Abraham leaves home

Now YHVH said to Abram, walk out of your country, from your birthplace, from your family home, to a land that I will show you.

I will make you into a great people and bless you and make your name known, and it will all be for a blessing.

And I will bless all that bless you, and curse all that curse you, and all the families of the earth will be blessed by you.

And Abram walked as YHVH had spoken to him and Lot went with him, and Abram was seventy-five years old when he went out of Haran.

-Genesis 12:1-5

Rabbi Hanina bar Idi said: How is Torah like water?

Just as one who is thirsty will use their last bit of strength to find water, one who thirsts for knowledge will use all they have to find a teacher.
